Academic Pathway Program

The Bridge Program for Children

  Course Description:

Layer-27

The Bridge Program for Children is designed to help elementary school international students make a smooth transition from their school system into a Canadian school system.

The Bridge Program for Children follows the British Columbia curriculum as determined by the Ministry of Education

Even for those with no plans to enrol in a Canadian school, the Bridge Program for Children offers younger students immersion in a new culture and the opportunity to learn English in an age-appropriate environment. These students benefit from the learning experience and take home many new skills and strategies that prove useful on their own educational path.

All staff at Burlington School have training in safeguarding of children, and our Welfare and Safeguarding policies are followed at all times.

The classes focus on the core English Language Arts (reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing), with extensive work on the communication skills required for academic and vocational subjects such as Math, Science, Technology and Fine Arts.

The Bridge Program for Children includes extra-curricular activities that enhance social and personal development.

The classes use a range of methodologies and activities to help students learn and use the language.  The classes use bespoke materials, and these are supplemented with authentic materials, video and interactive technology.

There are regular progress tests and tutorials, which helps the teachers identify students’ strengths and weakness, and allows the students to check their progress in English.

Most elementary and secondary schools in Canada have a limit to the number of international students that they can accept each year.   Starting dates are either September or February.

The Bridge Program allows students to maintain their academic pace and gives them an advantage over students who have not attended any readiness programs.

To further assist our students, Burlington provides guidance for graduates of our program to select a local school within the area.
