At Burlington School, we have been preparing our students for the Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE) Examination for many years, and we have an in-depth knowledge of needs of candidates and the demands of the test. Our Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE) Examination Preparation courses are designed to meet these needs.
Our Proficiency (CPE) preparation courses are for people with an advanced level of English who are studying for the Cambridge Advanced exam, whether for study, work or pleasure. Cambridge English exams are accepted by over 20,000 universities, employers and governments around the world as proof of your level of English. Typical learners at this level are able to use the language to a similar degree as an educated native speaker, and in a range of culturally appropriate ways. They are therefore able to adapt their language to a variety of situations and can use English in a creative and flexible way, and can respond appropriately to unexpected and unusual situations.
We believe there are three main areas that students should work on when preparing for any test: overall language improvement, specific exam-related language improvement (this includes the grammar and vocabulary that the exam focuses on, as well as study skills and exam skills), and authentic exam practice.
The classes from 09:00 - 11:30 and 14:00 - 16:30 focus on all aspects of the language in the context of the exam, including grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, speaking, listening, reading and writing.
The lessons from 11:45 - 12:30 and 13:00 - 13:45 build on these classes, focussing on specific sections of the exams as well as overall fluency.
There are regular practice tests in class, which helps the teachers identify students’ strengths and weakness, and allows the students to check their progress and to give students authentic practice under exam conditions.
