Burlington School has an excellent reputation for delivering courses in Professional English, and we provide training to companies and individuals from all over the world. Our General Business English course is specially designed to meet the needs of the modern working environment.
Our General Business English courses are designed for people who want to improve their English in a business or corporate context. They are suitable for experienced professionals, people preparing for their first job in an English-speaking environment, students preparing for business-related courses and people who want to improve their career prospects. Typical learners on the course are able to use the main structures of the language with some confidence and have a wide range of vocabulary. They can adapt their language to a variety of situations, and they do not rely on fixed patterns of language or short, simple utterances. However, they may have trouble with some unfamiliar subject areas, and lack control over longer, more complex language.
The classes from 09:00 - 11:30 and 14:00 - 16:30 focus on all aspects of the language in a professional context, including grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, speaking, listening, reading and writing.
The lessons from 11:45 - 12:30 and 13:00 - 13:45 build on the language from these classes, with a focus on communication and practical workplace skills.
All our lessons give students the opportunity to learn and use English in realistic situations, and our teachers give regular homework to help you practice. Skills covered in the classes include:
In addition, students work on projects, which can be related to their job or based on work within their classes. Students are given support and assistance to research subjects in English, and they then use this research to give presentations, write reports or hold negotiations and meetings in the school.
There are regular progress tests and tutorials, which helps the teachers identify students’ strengths and weakness, and allows the students to check their progress in English.
